A Punjabi singer messaged us last month, slightly panicked. His song was on Spotify and YouTube, but when fans searched for it in Instagram Reels, nothing came up. They were using a screen-recorded version with bad audio instead.
That gap is common, and it has two separate parts: getting the song into Meta's music library, and making your profile point to it.
Part 1: Is your song in the Meta library?
Instagram and Facebook do not take song uploads from artists for the music sticker or Reels audio. Songs get there when a distributor or label delivers them to Meta. Not every distributor does this, and some make it a separate option.
So ask your distributor three plain questions:
- Do you deliver to Instagram and Facebook's music library?
- Is it switched on for my release?
- How long after release does it usually show up?
Do not assume it is included. Get a clear yes or no. At RMX Music, write to our team with your release and we will tell you exactly what applies to it.
Part 2: Match your artist profile
Once a song is in the library, Meta has to connect it to the right artist. Distributors such as DistroKid explain in their help pages that they need your Facebook and Instagram artist URLs to do this mapping. In practice that means:
- Use an Instagram Professional (Creator or Business) account
- Keep your Instagram name the same as your release artist name
- Have a Facebook Page set to a musician or band category
- Send both links to your distributor when you upload
Part 3: Add the song to your Instagram profile
Instagram lets users add a song to their profile. As reported by the Economic Times when the feature came out, the steps are: open your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Music, search the song, choose the 30-second part you want, and tap Done. The option is in the mobile app only and may not show for every account type.
For an artist, this is free promotion. Every visitor hears your latest song.
Make Reels easy for fans
- Post your own Reel using the official audio from the library on release day
- Pick a hook in the first 15 seconds, the part people will dance or lip-sync to
- Ask fans to "use this audio" in the caption, not just "like and share"
- Pin the Reel to your profile
Haryanvi and Bhojpuri songs often blow up on Reels from one strong hook line. Make that line the clip.
