A Haryanvi singer we know had three YouTube presences: his own channel, an auto-made "Topic" channel, and a fan page someone else ran. His subscribers were split across all of them. The Official Artist Channel is YouTube's answer to that mess.
YouTube explains it in its help article, Introduction to Official Artist Channels. In short, an OAC merges subscribers from your topic channel, any Vevo channel and your main channel into one place, and puts a small music note next to your name.
What YouTube asks for
YouTube lists these must-haves:
- You own and run one channel for a single artist or band, focused on that artist's music
- At least one official music release on YouTube delivered by a music distributor or label
- Your channel follows YouTube's Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and copyright rules
Then you need at least one of these:
- You work with a YouTube Partner Manager
- You are in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
- You are part of a label network that works with a Partner Manager
- Your music is distributed by a partner listed in the YouTube Services Directory for Music Partners
YouTube also recommends having at least one public video uploaded on the channel itself. Requests from empty channels may be rejected.
You cannot apply by yourself
This is the part people miss. There is no button inside YouTube Studio that says "make me official". YouTube says to contact your label or distributor and ask them to request it. If you have neither, you can approach a Music Service Partner listed in YouTube's directory.
So the question to ask your distributor is simple: "Can you send an OAC request for my channel?" Whether they can depends on their YouTube setup.
Prepare your channel first
Before anyone sends a request, clean up:
- Use the exact artist name that appears on your releases
- Remove re-uploads of other people's songs and random vlogs
- Upload at least one proper video, even a lyric video or a live rehearsal clip
- Add your release links in the channel description
A Bhojpuri artist with 40 uploads of only their own songs and shows is a strong candidate. A channel mixing cricket highlights with music is not.
After you get it
You get Analytics for Artists, and options like ticketing and merch shelves where available. YouTube also warns that a Community Guidelines strike will suspend the OAC and turn it back into a normal channel until the strike is gone. One copied song can cost you the badge.
The distribution side
Your release still has to reach YouTube Music as an official release first. RMX Music delivers to YouTube Music and 95+ other platforms, usually within 24-48 hours, and also offers YouTube Content ID and Visual Claims so your songs are protected when others reuse them. You keep 100% ownership and 95% of royalties.
Get your first official release out the right way, then talk to your distributor about the OAC request. Sign up for RMX Music here.
