Every week someone from Gorakhpur or Rohtak sends us the same screenshot: their song is live on Spotify, but the artist page has no photo, no bio and a sad grey circle where the face should be. The fix is not a secret. You claim the profile through Spotify for Artists, and then you control how it looks.
Here is how it actually works, based on Spotify's own help page on getting access.
First, you need music on Spotify
You cannot claim a page that does not exist. Spotify does not take uploads from individual artists for regular releases, so your song has to reach Spotify through a distributor or a label. Once the first song is live, an artist page is created automatically under the name you used in your release metadata.
This is why spelling matters. If you released one Haryanvi single as "Raju Rohtakiya" and the next as "Raju Rohtak Wala", you may end up with two separate pages. Pick one name and stick to it.
The three ways in
Spotify lists a few routes, and the right one depends on your situation.
- Submit a request yourself. Go to artists.spotify.com, search your artist name and request access. Spotify asks for a link to your website or social channels to confirm it is really you. Spotify says it reviews these requests by hand, so approval can take a few days.
- Instant access through a preferred distributor. Spotify says that if you deliver music with one of its "preferred providers", you get access automatically when you submit the request. Whether this applies to you depends entirely on your distributor, so ask them.
- Get invited. If a manager or band member already claimed the page, you cannot request to join. The team's Admin has to invite you.
Before your first release
Many new artists do not know this one. You can join your Spotify for Artists team before the song is even out. Ask your distributor for your artist link or URI (it looks like spotify.com/artist/... or spotify:artist:...) and the UPC or EAN of the upcoming release. Then contact Spotify with those details through their support page.
Why bother? Because the most useful tool, pitching an unreleased song to editors, only works before release day.
What to keep ready for the request
- An Instagram or YouTube channel with your artist name clearly shown
- A link that ties you to the music, like a YouTube upload of the same song
- An email you actually check, because Spotify writes back there if something is missing
Only one request can be active per artist at a time. If your cousin who "handles your social media" already applied, wait for that review to finish.
What about the blue tick?
People say "Spotify verification" but there is no separate blue-tick application form. Once you have access, you can upload a profile photo, header image and bio, and pick an Artist Pick. That is what makes the page look official to listeners. Fill all of it. A Bhojpuri devotional singer with a clear photo, a two-line bio in Hindi and English, and a pinned new bhajan looks far more trustworthy than a blank page.
A quick checklist
- Song live on Spotify through a distributor
- Same artist name on every release
- Request filed at artists.spotify.com with real social links
- Photo, bio and Artist Pick updated once approved
- Team members invited by the Admin, not by separate requests
