Call any shop in Purvanchal and there is a decent chance you hear a Bhojpuri song before the owner says "haan ji". Callertunes are old technology, but they never went away in India. For many regional artists they are still a real income line.
There are two sides to this: getting your song into the operators' catalogues, and then making it easy for fans to set it.
Side 1: Getting your song onto the operators
Artists cannot submit a song to Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL directly. Telecom operators take callertune content from labels and distributors who have deals with them. Your distributor also has to pick the right short clip, usually the hook, and send it with correct metadata.
What to decide at upload time:
- Which part of the song? Pick the catchiest 30 seconds or so. For a bhajan, the first line of the chorus. For a Haryanvi DJ track, the drop.
- Clear title. Fans search by song name in the apps, so keep the title simple. "Sona Sona Bhojpuri Song" is clearer than "Sona Sona (Prod. XYZ) [Official]".
- Correct language tag. It decides which category the tune shows up in.
Side 2: How fans set it
These are the official methods from each operator's own pages.
Jio (JioTunes) Jio's JioTunes page and its how-to article say users can open the MyJio app or JioSaavn, go to JioTunes, search a song, preview it and tap Set. Jio also lists dialling 56789 from a Jio SIM.
Airtel (Hellotunes) Airtel moved Hellotunes to the Airtel Thanks app. Users log in, open Hellotunes, search a song and set it. Wynk is no longer the route.
Vi (Callertunes) Vi's guide on its Vi Callertune app page explains that users open the Vi app, go to Callertunes, choose a song and set it. Vi notes a callertune pack may apply.
BSNL BSNL also offers callertunes. Check BSNL's official website or self-care app for the current method in your circle, since it can differ.
Tell your fans how
Most fans do not know your song is available. Post a 20-second video showing the exact steps in the MyJio app, in your language. A Rajasthani folk singer can say, "Mharo naya gaana ab JioTune pe hai", and show the screen. It works far better than a text post.
