For a long time, Bhojpuri songs with 200 million views had no chart to sit on. They were huge, but they were not counted anywhere official. YouTube changed that in 2025.
What YouTube announced
At the first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, held 1-4 May 2025, YouTube shared a set of music initiatives for India. Rolling Stone India reported that these included Weekly Top Music Videos charts in Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Haryanvi and Bhojpuri, with more Indian-language charts promised.
The other announcements, according to YouTube's own India blog post from 2 May 2025:
- YouTube Music Nights, a series of live events featuring Indian artists, starting with a show at WAVES
- A new Foundry class with Indian artists (YouTube's programme for independent musicians)
- YouTube said it paid over ₹21,000 crore to creators, artists and media companies in India from 2022 to 2024
Why language charts matter
A chart is more than a list. It is how radio, event bookers, brands and the press decide who is "hot". Haryanvi and Bhojpuri music have huge YouTube audiences but were often missing from national conversations. A dedicated chart puts them in front of people who make decisions.
For a new Haryanvi singer, appearing next to established names on a weekly chart can be the line in a pitch to an event organiser or a brand.
How to give your song a fair chance
YouTube has not published a formula for its charts, so be wary of anyone who says they can "get you on the chart". What you control:
- Release an official music video on your own channel, not only on a label channel you don't control
- Use the right language in titles and descriptions, so the video is clearly identified
- Distribute the audio to YouTube Music so you have an official release
- Plan Shorts around the hook to drive people to the full video
- Avoid fake views. Bought views can get videos removed and channels penalised
