Spotify's India Numbers for 2025: Royalties Up 29%, and Haryanvi Is the Surprise Story

Spotify's Loud & Clear India data says royalties for Indian artists grew 29% in 2025, with Telugu, Marathi and Haryanvi among the big movers. Here is what it means for independent artists.

Spotify's India Numbers for 2025: Royalties Up 29%, and Haryanvi Is the Surprise Story

Haryanvi streams on Spotify went up almost sevenfold between February 2023 and February 2026. Read that again if you make Haryanvi music.

That line is from the India edition of Spotify's yearly Loud & Clear report, published on the Spotify newsroom on 2 September 2026. The report looks at how Indian artists earned from Spotify in 2025, and the headline is simple: more money, spread across more languages.

The main numbers

According to Spotify and Music Ally's summary of the report:

  • Royalties generated by Indian artists on Spotify grew 29% year on year in 2025
  • Artists earning more than ₹1 crore a year grew 21%
  • Artists earning more than ₹5 crore have doubled since 2023
  • Indian artists were streamed over 335 billion times globally in 2025
  • Listeners discovered an Indian artist they had never heard before 12.8 billion times, up 14%
  • More than 40% of royalties earned by Indian artists came from listeners outside India

The language story

Spotify said every major Indian language added to the growth. Telugu royalties rose more than 120%. Marathi and Bengali were close to 50%. Malayalam was above 30%, Hindi almost 30% and Tamil about 20%.

And then Haryanvi, with that near sevenfold jump in streams, making it one of the fastest-growing languages on the platform.

Independent music is not a side category any more

The Daily Pioneer's report on the data points out that half of Spotify's 2025 year-end top 10 in India came from outside film soundtracks, and 11 of the 15 most-exported Indian tracks were independent releases. Aditya Rikhari's "Sahiba" stayed at No. 1 on Spotify India for more than 11 weeks.

Punjabi singer Simran Choudhary said at the launch event that artists "no longer have to wait for a big label or a traditional industry gatekeeper".

What we take from it

A few practical points for artists we work with:

  • Regional is not small. If you sing in Haryanvi, Bhojpuri or Marathi, you are not chasing a niche. The money is growing faster there than in many big markets.
  • Overseas fans pay. 40% of royalties came from outside India. Your Punjabi song can earn in Canada and the UK if it is properly available there.
  • Discovery is real. 12.8 billion first-time discoveries means the algorithm is introducing new names every day. Your metadata, language tags and artist profile need to be correct for that to work.
